When Skinny was founded in 2013, the sole purpose was to produce pure coconut oil that was full of all the natural vitamins and nutrients that people in the Tropics had grown to love about the fruit. But why was there such a difference in benefits among coconut oils? And, more applicable, what is the difference between The Skinny coconut oil and other oils on the market?
While Luke Geddie, our CEO, was living in Vietnam, he realized that the coconut oil he used there was vastly different from other coconut oils he had used in the past. The biggest difference he noticed was that the other coconut oils provided only a fraction of the benefits that he was experiencing with raw coconut oil in Vietnam. The reason? Toxic chemicals and heat were being added to the equation.
We now know that other companies use heat and chemicals in their manufacturing process, which strips the fruit of the natural benefits it is harvested to obtain. Even “cold-pressed” coconut oil is heated up to 120º F and cold-pressed after the damage has already been done. Our patented Nutralock System™ is the only process that removes the meat of the coconut by using cool, dry air and never heating the fruit. Because of that, our products contain all the vitamins, minerals, electrolytes, and lauric acid that the coconut contains naturally. (Read more about laruic acid here.)
In addition, because of our unique process, we have successfully created the only noncomedogenic coconut oil available today. This means it won't clog your pores or lead to breakouts. We add specific therapeutic-grade essential oils to our coconut oil that target specific skin issues so that your skin is balanced, nourished, and healthy.
We’ve always pledged to create and manufacture products with five or fewer ingredients that are clean enough to eat.
